Engaging

This Dan Cogan quote seemed worthy of posting here:

"While contemporary worship seem to take the listener on an exciting and emotional rollercoaster, the hymns engage the mind with deep and glorious truths that when sincerely pondered cause a regenerated heart to humbly bow before its King."

Press on t'ward the Goal

With the Olympics starting this weekend, I thought this might work for some of you who plan worship in your churches or have input into those services. Feel free to use it; just let me know.

"Why Do I Write Hymns?"

I wish I had written this... and wish I knew who did. It is a good paradigm for any writer of sacred literature - even sermons!

“Why then do I write hymns?

  • ·        To stir up my own awareness of God’s will and mercy,
  • ·        to express my own need for Him and
  • ·        to begin to render some genuine appreciation for His love,
  • ·        to review my place in His plan for me and for humanity,
  • ·        to refresh myself with His love so as to be able to feed others with it,
  • ·        to experience His forgiveness so that I can forgive others,
  • ·        to taste His peace so that I can be its instrument for others still at war with Him, with themselves, and one another, and
  • ·        to look forward to God’s ultimate goal for me, for which I have been redeemed at so great a cost.”
